Austin Hitt wins first PGA Tour card with Korn Ferry Tour Championship victory

Austin Hitt won October’s Korn Ferry Tour Championship in Virginia and earned his first PGA Tour card. In a Nov. 3 post, the PGA Tour described Ben Griffin, Hitt’s former UNC golf teammate, growing emotional as he watched the win. The Tour called Hitt Griffin’s de facto “younger brother.”

The Tour said Griffin thought of the Hitt family’s shared dream of Austin earning a PGA Tour card, as well as Hitt’s earlier close calls. Hitt’s father, Chip, died of cancer roughly two years before the Tour’s post. Chip had been a standout junior golfer in Virginia.
