NCAA sues Ohio governor over order on college eligibility rules

The NCAA has sued Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine over an executive order that Nicole Auerbach reported compels colleges in the state to ignore the association’s eligibility rules. Sports-law reporter Michael McCann said the order would allow some athletes deemed ineligible under NCAA rules to compete.

Pete Thamel shared an excerpt from the NCAA’s complaint saying the order appears designed to give Ohio schools permission to disregard NCAA rules. The association argues that approach is unlawful on three separate grounds. In a statement quoted by Thamel, the NCAA called suing the governor an “extraordinary step.”
