@toot5000Nathan Cleary has claimed his maiden Dally M Medal, accepting the NRL’s highest individual honour via video link from the comfort of his living room couch. The Penrith star couldn’t be in attendance for the awards night as he had surgery on his fractured foot.
@james_spir19274Good morning to all of my dear dear friend here. Special Congratulations to @PenrithPanthers @_nathancleary upon receiving Dally M award for most outstanding player 2026
@gobriefNathan Cleary has won his first Dally M Medal on 67 votes - and wasn't there to collect it, after ankle surgery. Tamika Upton took a third NRLW award on the same night. https://www.thebrief.news/en/standard/article/25905/cleary-claims-first-dally-m-as-upton-makes-it-three?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=brief_news&utm_content=nz
@nrlphysioNathan Cleary has been discharged from hospital after surgery to repair an open fracture in his left leg, with the surgeon reportedly happy with the outcome & hopeful that Cleary will fit for Round 1 2027 (via @ScottBaileyAAP) Cleary will go back for a 2nd surgery later this week on the stress fracture in his right foot that he carried into the Prelim Final - there will be a overlapping period of non-weight bearing for both surgeries so he may be required to use a wheelchair for a short time. The right foot injury has been revealed as a Jones fracture - which is a break in the 5th metatarsal (bone on the outer side of the foot) that would usually require around 10 weeks recovery. Even though Jones fractures are known for slow healing, tricky rehab and high re-fracture rates it will still have plenty of time to recover. Surgery (usually a screw fixation) helps lower that re-fracture risk, and with the open leg fracture needing months of rehab the foot will likely be ready long before the leg is.
@PeterVLangCLEARY UPDATE: AAP are reporting that Nathan’s surgeon is happy with how the operation went and even though it’s very early days, he’s hopeful ‘Clez’ can make it back for round one next year. #pantherpride
