The 1977 shooting of Lazio title winner Luciano Re Cecconi
FourFourTwo revisits the midfielder’s role in Lazio’s first Italian league title in 1974 and his death at 28 in a Rome jewellery shop during what it describes as a fake robbery prank.
TLDR
FourFourTwo portrays Luciano Re Cecconi as a unifying figure in a Lazio squad divided into armed factions, helping the club win its first Italian league title in 1974. According to the magazine’s account, he was fatally shot in a Rome jewellery shop on January 18, 1977, after pretending to stage a robbery with teammate Pietro Ghedin. He was 28. FourFourTwo says the jeweller was cleared of criminal responsibility, a decision it describes as still debated.
