Liam Lawson disqualified from Mexico City Grand Prix qualifying
Lawson qualified eighth, but an MGU-K power breach leaves him due to start from the back of the grid.
TLDR
Just after Lawson crossed the line on his fastest Q2 lap, his Racing Bulls car failed to meet the required rate of MGU-K power reduction. Racing Bulls disclosed the breach and argued it gave him no performance advantage, but the stewards cited precedents requiring disqualification despite those mitigating circumstances. A separate one-place penalty had already put him on course to start ninth; he is now due to start at the back.
