Formula 1 has announced a five-year extension keeping the São Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos through 2035, Chris Medland reported for RACER.
The previous agreement was due to expire in 2030. F1 announced the extension on Saturday during the 2026 race weekend, The Race reported.
Interlagos first appeared on the F1 calendar in 1973, according to The Race. It has been a fixture on the schedule since 1990, with the exception of the COVID-hit 2020 season, RACER reported.
“Brazil is an important part of Formula 1’s history and our future, and I am delighted that this five-year extension will see us continue racing in Sao Paulo until 2035,” F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said in remarks carried by The Race.
São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes linked the longer agreement to investment in the venue. RACER reported that Nunes said the stability would allow Interlagos to continue investing in facilities and infrastructure. “Maintaining this partnership means ensuring predictability for investment, strengthening the calendar of major events and consolidating the city’s position as a global benchmark for hosting international competitions,” he said.
