Personalized melanoma vaccine lowers risk of recurrence or death in late-stage trial
Moderna and Merck's vaccine plus pembrolizumab cut the two-year risk of recurrence or death by 42% versus pembrolizumab alone.
TLDR
Among more than 1,100 people with surgically removed high-risk melanoma, 82% of those given the tailored vaccine plus pembrolizumab were alive without recurrence about two years after treatment began, on average, versus 70% given pembrolizumab alone. Follow-up has not established whether the vaccine improves survival. Independent researchers say approval could come in 2027, though its expected high cost may limit access through the UK's NHS.
