Nine in 10 male youths in a Michigan detention study reported at least mild physical abuse

University of Michigan News reports that researchers studied 115 male youths, ages 13–20, at one Michigan juvenile detention facility. Nine in 10 reported at least mild physical abuse, and one-third reported severe prior sexual abuse. The study found that 85% had a learning disability, a mental health condition or both. Researchers say identifying learning and cognitive needs early could help schools and service providers intervene.
