NASA will use an Oct. 23 briefing to explain how it plans to speed up the Artemis program while pursuing a return of American astronauts to the lunar surface by 2028.
The NASA announcement says the update will include details about Artemis III, now planned as a four-astronaut mission to low Earth orbit in 2027. NASA says the crew will test critical systems needed for later lunar landings.
That distinction matters: the announced Artemis III mission is a systems test in Earth orbit, not the 2028 Moon landing itself. NASA has not yet disclosed the additional mission details it plans to present at the briefing, and the 2028 date remains the agency’s stated plan rather than a completed milestone.
How to watch the Artemis update
The briefing is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT on Friday, Oct. 23, at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya and Artemis program manager Jeremy Parsons are listed as participants.
NASA will stream the event on its live video page. The agency says the officials will discuss both the Artemis III test and how plans for the 2028 lunar return are progressing.
