Researchers identify possible human sacrifice beside 2,000-year-old elite warrior burial in Russia

Live Science reports that archaeologists found a human pelvis fragment in a ritual assemblage of animal remains beside an elite Maeotian horseman’s grave in Russia’s Kuban region. Researchers interpret it as evidence of human sacrifice, though the person’s role is unknown. The first-century B.C. site also yielded weapons, a sacrificed horse, two gold staters and a cup engraved with a pentagram.
