New megaraptorid dinosaur Rinconraptor pipoae described in Argentine Patagonia
The October 2026 paper also describes nearby megaraptorid remains that Méndez and colleagues do not assign to species.
TLDR
Ariel Hernán Méndez and colleagues describe Rinconraptor pipoae as a new genus and species of megaraptorid from Neuquén, Argentina. Their October 2026 paper describes a fragmentary specimen and additional, indeterminate megaraptorid remains from the Cerro Overo–La Invernada area, not additional named species. C5N reports that Méndez estimated Rinconraptor’s length at roughly 7 meters, possibly 8, by comparison with other megaraptorans.
