Juice’s Earth flyby boosts its speed by 3.5 km/s on the way to Jupiter
ESA says Juice passed 8,640 km above the Indian Ocean on September 28, 2026, using little fuel as Earth’s gravity changed its course. The spacecraft also photographed Earth and the Moon.
TLDR
ESA says the September 28 flyby increased Juice’s speed by 3.5 km/s and deflected its path by 20 degrees. The pass also gave teams a chance to calibrate its science instruments. ESA plans another Earth flyby in January 2029 before the spacecraft’s planned arrival at Jupiter in 2031.
