Francis Halzen wins 2026 physics Nobel for work on IceCube

Francis Halzen won the 2026 Nobel Prize in physics for his leadership in establishing the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, Science News reports. Buried in Antarctic ice, the observatory uses thousands of sensors to detect rare flashes of light produced when neutrinos collide with atomic nuclei. It discovered high-energy neutrinos from beyond our solar system.
