Long-studied superconductor revealed far more complex than 40 years of prior research assumed
ScienceDaily reports advanced 3D imaging showed two atomic arrangements, with boundaries hundreds of times wider than expected.
TLDR
ScienceDaily reports that University of Warwick researchers mapped the interior of a copper-based superconductor long thought to have a uniform crystal structure. They found a patchwork of two atomic arrangements separated by unusually broad boundaries. Study leader Mark Senn says those boundaries likely work against superconductivity and that some past measurements may need to be reinterpreted.
