ESCAPADE's Blue and Gold prepare for separate Mars-bound engine burns
Blue's engine burn is scheduled for Nov. 7, followed by Gold's on Nov. 9.

Blue and Gold are preparing to use an Earth flyby to head toward Mars, with separate engine burns scheduled for Nov. 7 and 9. Rocket Lab calls the planned maneuver trans-Mars injection. Rocket Lab designed and built the spacecraft for ESCAPADE, whose mission partners are UC Berkeley and NASA. They are intended to measure plasma and magnetic fields around Mars to study processes behind atmospheric loss.
