Hugging Face and partners release open Carbon-X model for chatting with DNA
The 14.8-billion-parameter model takes raw DNA sequences in a chat and answers questions about them in English.
TLDR
Hugging Face and research partners released Carbon-X, based on Qwen3-14B, for questions about DNA. Developers report a 66.7% average across five benchmarks, ahead of the other open models they evaluated and near GPT-6.1 Sol’s 67.5%; AiLookout says the results have not been independently reproduced. The model card says Carbon-X was not trained to design new sequences, has not been clinically validated and should not be used for medical decisions.
