    TLDR

A post says biologists found oxygen being produced in darkness on the ocean floor and that scientists call it “dark oxygen.” A reply attributes the oxygen to metal-rich rocks splitting seawater. It also claims the same basic idea is inspiring batteries that could store more energy.

The Astronomy Guy@astrooalert🚨: Biologists just found oxygen being produced in absolute darkness on the ocean floor. Scientists are calling it the 'Dark Oxygen'.16h
Phoenix Fury@PhoenixOfFuryThe ocean floor quietly makes oxygen in total darkness—and it has nothing to do with sunlight or living things. These metal-rich rocks on the seafloor split seawater and release oxygen on their own. Scientists are calling it “dark oxygen.” We already do something similar on purpose with special oxygen candles used in planes and submarines. Now the same basic idea is inspiring a new wave of batteries that could store far more energy than today's capability, without relying on scarce materials. Nature figured this out first. We’re still trying to catch up.13h
