New Palladium-Membrane System Destroys Forever Chemicals at High Efficiency
Arizona State University researchers developed a palladium-coated membrane using hydrogen gas to break carbon-fluorine bonds in PFAS.
TLDR
PFAS are ubiquitous in nonstick cookware, packaging, and firefighting foams, persisting indefinitely in the environment. The membrane removed over 90% of six PFAS types and stripped about 83% of fluorine over 58 days, breaking the chemicals down rather than just filtering them out. Wisconsin Gov. Evers announced the state’s first enforceable PFAS groundwater standards on November 2.
