Researchers Develop Catalytic Methods to Destroy Forever Chemicals (PFAS)
Arizona State University and University of Utah teams developed catalytic membrane systems to break carbon-fluorine bonds in PFAS.
TLDR
PFAS (forever chemicals) are persistent environmental and health contaminants linked to disease, found globally in water and human bodies. The teams used palladium nanoparticles and hydrogen to break carbon-fluorine bonds in PFAS. Lab tests removed >90% of six PFAS compounds with ~83% defluorination.
