    What NASA reported after reentry

A side-by-side image comparison labeled the left heat shield as Artemis I’s and the right as Artemis II’s. The post, which credited the images to NASA, described improvements on the Artemis II shield as visible.

    Featured Source

NASA Artemis separately said post-flight analysis found the Artemis II Orion heat shield performed as expected during its Mach 39 reentry. The agency said the shield protected Orion and the astronauts aboard as they returned from a 694,481-mile journey around the Moon.

NASA’s update focused on the shield’s performance and did not identify particular visible differences in the image as specific engineering changes.
