A Friday post from Ryan Caton said SpaceX's Ship 40 was being rolled off the transport ship that carried it back from the Indian Ocean. Caton described the move as the Starship's return to dry land after its July flight and ocean landing. NASASpaceflight reposted the account, but the attached reporting does not independently confirm the unloading.
Ship 40 launched from Starbase, Texas, on July 24 during SpaceX's 13th full-up Starship test flight. The Associated Press reported that the vehicle survived the roughly hourlong flight and remained floating intact in the Indian Ocean, unlike the Starships flown on the preceding tests.
SpaceX recovered the vehicle near Christmas Island and began shipping it back to Texas in late August. The company said the difficult recovery would give engineers more data as they continue developing Starship. That makes Ship 40 more than an unusually large piece of returned hardware: It is a flown vehicle engineers can study after launch, reentry and splashdown.
