Crystalline compound yields methane, then hydrogen, in oxygen-free heating test
Tech Xplore reports both gases emerged at 80–110°C without oxygen; its October report says recharge testing was still needed.
TLDR
Researchers in India developed a crystalline magnesium-zinc compound that, according to Tech Xplore, released methane before hydrogen when heated without oxygen at 80–110°C. A separate solution test at 100°C released only hydrogen. The material is a proof of concept, not a practical fuel-storage system. Tech Xplore’s October report said the team still needed to test recharging and whether the material could repeat the release cycle.
