Transplanted hearts may take on some age markers of their recipients
ZME Science reports that older hearts in younger mice gained younger molecular signatures, though not every sign of aging changed.
TLDR
ZME Science reports that transplanted mouse hearts shifted toward their recipients’ biological ages on DNA methylation measures four to six months after surgery. Archived biopsies from 11 human heart transplants showed a similar pattern. Not all age-related features changed, and an outside expert cautioned that the models used to estimate biological age remain experimental.
