Indian Private Space Payloads Launch on SpaceX Falcon 9 Transporter-18

SpaceX Falcon 9 launched from Vandenberg carrying Indian commercial payloads: Dhruva Space's LEAP-2 with hosted experiments, SatLeo Labs' TAPAS-1 thermal imaging CubeSat for agriculture and methane monitoring, and TakeMe2Space's MOI-1A orbital AI computing satellite with Nvidia processors.

TLDR

The mission demonstrates India's emerging private space sector and practical applications in agriculture, environmental monitoring, and in-orbit computing. It reflects growing commercial space activity and India's transition from government-only space programs to private ventures with real-world monitoring and AI capabilities.

@ispaceflight_inINDIA ON SPACEX TRANSPORTER-18 TODAY Falcon 9 lifts off from Vandenberg at 11:18 am PT (23:48 IST) with three Indian private space missions on the manifest. 1. Dhruva Space (Hyderabad): LEAP-2 satellite A satellite from Dhruva's LEAP program (Launching Expeditions for Aspiring Payloads), which offers hosted-payload missions on its P-30 satellite bus. It is listed on SpaceX's official manifest as "DHRUVA SPACE LEAP-2", manifested by Dhruva Space, and deploys about 58 minutes after liftoff. Dhruva announced in 2025 that LEAP-2 would carry France's Sodern HORUS star tracker for an in-orbit demonstration. 2. SatLeo Labs (Ahmedabad): TAPAS-1 India's first dedicated commercial CubeSat-category thermal payload, about 3 kg. Business Standard reports it launches via Dhruva's LEAP-2 mission. Its long-wave infrared sensor maps land surface temperature, which optical imagery cannot do, from about 500 km up for an expected three years. Why it matters: it is SatLeo's first step toward PYRO, a planned thermal constellation of 10 to 15 satellites by 2029. TAPAS-2 is in manufacturing for mid-2027. Uses: urban heat, agriculture, methane and landfill monitoring, disaster response, defence. 3. TakeMe2Space (Hyderabad): MOI-1A India's first orbital computing satellite. It uses Nvidia Orin NX chips so customers can upload AI models that run in orbit and downlink only the results. It has 117 TOPS of compute, 2TB of storage and a nine-band multispectral imager, with 23 customers signed up. It rides a D-Orbit orbital transfer vehicle, with orbital injection expected by October 8. Why it matters: it replaces MOI-1, which was lost in January when ISRO's PSLV-C62 failed. TakeMe2Space rebooked on the first available Falcon 9 rideshare. #Transporter18 #Falcon9 #DhruvaSpace #LEAP2 #SatLeo #TAPAS1 #TakeMe2Space #MOI1A #IndianSpace
