Blood test identifies about 87% of patients with early-stage pancreatic cancer in study
NIH says the test combines microRNAs with CA19-9, a known pancreatic cancer biomarker.
TLDR
NIH reports that researchers studied the blood test in 1,785 patients with and without pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. It identified about 87% of patients with early-stage pancreatic cancer and correctly detected precancers more than half the time. Researchers say larger studies, including trials in high-risk populations, are needed to determine how best to use it.
