NASA's Lucy Spacecraft Enters Jupiter Trojan Asteroid Region After 2.2 Billion Miles

A post citing NASA says Lucy became the first mission to enter the Jupiter Trojan asteroid region after traveling more than 2.2 billion miles since its 2021 launch. It says these ancient bodies share Jupiter's orbit in two swarms and are expected to hold clues to how the solar system formed 4.5 billion years ago. The post sets Lucy's first close flyby, of Eurybates, for August 2027.
