Longfin squid study examines nearly 8,000 edited sites across more than 2,000 proteins
ScienceAlert reports that a UCSF-led team compared RNA editing in the squid's optic lobe and gills.
TLDR
A UCSF-led study of longfin inshore squid examined nearly 8,000 edited sites across more than 2,000 proteins in the optic lobe and gills, ScienceAlert reports. Editing was more complex in the optic lobe. First author Jack Moen says RNA edits can change protein properties without changing DNA, but his estimate of nearly 10²⁴⁸ possible variants is theoretical, not a count of variants the squid produced.
