When was the last time someone really touched you?
Not a handshake or a quick hug goodbye. I mean held you. Placed a hand on your back with intention and let their fingers linger. Touch starvation is something I think about a lot. We live in a world that has become increasingly contactless.
I read recently that the average adult in Australia receives less than five minutes of meaningful physical contact per day. Five minutes. Meanwhile our bodies are crying out for it, often expressing that unmet need as anxiety, irritability, low mood or a general feeling of disconnection.
Many people feel ashamed of wanting more touch. As if needing closeness makes you needy.
It doesn't though, it makes you a normal human.
What's your experience with this? Do you feel like we've collectively lost something when it comes to physical connection?
