US to send ICE agents to Winter Olympics, prompting Italian anger
The US plans to send Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, sparking anger and alarm in Italy. The Italian mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, stated that ICE agents, who have been involved in fatal shootings in Minneapolis, are not welcome in Italy. ICE clarified that it will not conduct immigration enforcement operations outside the US and is only supporting security operations. However, the Italian government and public remain concerned about the presence of ICE agents.
