The double standard relating to Somaliland
Why do you think the majority of the world has not recognized Somaliland despite them meeting the four criteria for statehood as designated by the Montevideo Convention? The four criteria are a permanent population, a defined territory, government, and a capacity to enter into relations with the other states.
Somaliland has proven capable of governing itself for over 30 years and meets all the conditions set forth. Yet the world is silent. Some even go so far as to condemn those who recognize Somaliland's sovereignty. This is in stark contrast to Palestine for instance. Despite it's lack of meeting the conditions, much of the world supports it's recognition.
What gives? Aren't we supposed to support a group's right to self determination and governance? There are many groups of distinct people who are "stateless". Where are all the "well informed" virtue signalers and social justice warriors? Why aren't you as passionate about other groups as you are about those who the media shoves down your throat and tells you to worry about? Where is the call of support for the Kurds to have their own state? Why aren't you protesting "free Kurdistan"?
