"Time Travel" is Possible! If you disagree, politely & respectifully fight me! Come at me, bro!
What up, my dudes (and dudettes)!
You’re not going to believe this! I have a time machine! It does not allow me to travel to the past. But it allows me to travel to the future. How it works is simple. I set the timer on my machine to 15 minutes, or however far into the future I intend on traveling. And then I get on the machine. The machine is a treadmill. I “need” to use the machine for the period of time I set it to move into the period of time I set it to move me into. It’s amazing.
So, it should be evident that traveling through time is possible. Duh! I have a literal time machine, after all. Some of you dudes and dudettes may not even need my machine to travel to the future like I do. And come to think about it, I don’t think I need the machine also.
So, that got me thinking: are we able to travel into the past? Am I physically able to move into the past? Am I able to go back and say hi to my ancestors?
Here’s my take:
Time exists because change exists. Change is relative. The change relative to a change at a particular place like the moon is not the same change that takes place relative to a change on the surface of the Earth. And what change happens and can happen is objective and absolute. Don’t get me wrong. I am not denying the fact that our experience of time is subjective. But what change takes place (how time moves) is independent of our conceptions and experiences.
Thus, necessarily it would be impossible for our change to be isolated relative to all that is changing, and then to have that which changes to change in reverse flow in the same way it happened. Because we are part of the flow of change, and are compelled to flow within what’s necessary & possible.
But, what I have concerned myself with is only a “Horizontal Change”. A “Horizontal Change” goes something like this: A is the cause/reason of B; B is the cause/reason of C; and C does not need A to be the cause/reason of C. C may also have D be its cause/reason.
I have not concerned myself with “Vertical Change”! Think of “Vertical Change” like this: A is the cause/reason of B. B is the cause/reason of C. And C’s cause/reason demands A to exist & B to exist, just like B needs A to exist. The “Vertical Dependence” that is “Vertical Change” is one where one thing consumes the other in existence. And thus, there is this Necessary Being (The One) that necessarily exists that all existence is dependent on for its existence. The Neoplatonists will state that there necessarily exists a total & complete simple existence that all existence is dependent on that exists. This existence (The One/The Necessary Being) is total, complete, and simple and is, was, and always will be (it is that existence that truly is absolute; nothing is absolute but it); and that it does not lose or gain anything when everything emanates from it, returns to it, and is dependent on it for existence.
And this is where another “Time Travel” happens (another form of change of being happens; a vertical change, and not a horizontal change)! This is one where one returns to one’s source of existence!
Can one return to where one came from?
I believe that one is forced to return if one likes it or not, because nothing in existence is absolute but the absolute alone (the Necessary Being/The One alone is absolute). Thus, one either returns willingly or unwillingly; the former is via an enduring happiness via a value & moving with reality (giving things their due), and the latter is via a suffering (the desire an individual has is never met because they’re irrational). But, one is able to “Time Travel” (make the “Vertical Journey” back to one’s original being); and thus actualize the eternal enduring happiness in the present.
Alright, that said, let’s get serious! How does one make the “Vertical Journey”? How does one return to one’s “original being”? How does one even know what one’s “original being” (the being that one’s being is a distant reflection of) is?
Here’s the deal: The Being as such (The Intellect) is necessarily the being that gives things their due, and that finds enduring happiness in giving things their due. It’s a being that exists in legitimacy. It’s a completely rational being. Its desires are not irrational. Its desires are always met; because of its sense of proportion. Its total & complete existence is witnessing The One, and in witnessing The One unites with all that there is. You & I are not The Intellect. You & I are beings within The Intellect. You & I are intellects within The Intellect. We know what our being/soul is because we are our particular desires. And thus, when we recall the experience of “giving things their due”; and thus are initiated & choose to be rational (choose to actualize giving things their due) with our being/desire/soul we will necessarily make the return journey. One is able to recall the experience because of one’s access to one’s original being that eternally is; that’s one’s source & that’s one’s return. That recollection of the experience of giving things their due (the enduring happiness/serenity that is in giving things their due) will naturally initiate & nurture ourselves to be what we were; we return to our ideal self via remembrance/recollection.
And thus, in the present we become symbols of what is eternally true via such “Time Travel”; that’s possible.
