Source: Ranger Suarez agrees to 5-year, $130M deal with Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have agreed to a five-year, $130 million deal with left-handed pitcher Ranger Suarez, according to a source reported by ESPN. The deal solidifies the Red Sox rotation, which is expected to include Suarez, Garrett Crochet, Sonny Gray, Brayan Bello, and Johan Oviedo. Suarez, 30, has been a reliable and underrated pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies since 2021, boasting a 3.25 ERA over the past five seasons. Despite a slight decline in fastball velocity, his ERA and WAR have improved, and he set career highs with 151 strikeouts and 157 innings pitched in 2024. The Phillies will receive a compensatory draft pick after the fourth round due to Suarez signing with a new team.
Unexpected but still sad to see him go. At least it wasn’t to another NL East team.
