Figo is a Chicago-based pet insurance provider that cover cats and dogs. Founded in 2012, Figo takes a very technology-centric approach to pet insurance, incorporating a cloud-based platform to manage all your medical records and relevant information.
Coverage
Figo offers three plans: the least expensive one covers accidents and illnesses, as well as prescriptions, hip dysplasia, alternative treatments, prosthetics, mobility devices, and even treatment for behavioral problems. Plus, Figo doesn't have exclusions for hereditary or congenital conditions, or pre-existing conditions if they've been cured for at least 12 months.
You can choose between three benefit caps: $5,000, $10,000, or unlimited coverage. Unlike some of their competitors, they don't offer unlimited coverage as the default option. Also, they don't have a benefit schedule, which means you can get complete peace of mind by going with the high-end plan that offers unlimited coverage.
Figo also has a flexible deductible system, with annual deductibles ranging from $100 to $1,500, depending on your pet's age and location.
When it comes to reimbursement, Figo offers you four options: 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%. They're the only pet insurance company that we know of that offers 100% reimbursement, and they pay out on the actual vet bill, not a usual and customary cost model.
Pricing and Customer Service
Figo's pricing is in line with other pet insurance companies, depending on the plan, deductible, and reimbursement percentage you choose. However, Figo's Pet Cloud platform sets them apart. You get access to a licensed vet 24/7 via video chat, can store and share medical records, receive appointment reminders, and more. They also have a virtual pet lover community, which includes pet-centric activities, stores around you, and even vaccination reminders.
Figo covers all dogs and cats eight weeks and older, with no upper age limit or breed restrictions. Waiting periods for accidents and injuries are only three days, and 14 days for illnesses. There's also a six-month waiting period for hip dysplasia and orthopedic problems, but that can be waived if your vet submits a form that certifies your pet has no pre-existing orthopedic conditions.
