Bear attack shelters going on sale in Japan as country experiences record-high number of incidents

In response to a record-high number of bear attacks in Japan, Jacacon has developed the Kumacon, a repurposed shipping container designed as a bear shelter. The Kumacon, developed in collaboration with Tokyo University of Science, is equipped to withstand bear attacks and includes features such as solar power, a toilet, ventilation, emergency food, and bear repellent. Available in three sizes, the Kumacon aims to provide a safe refuge during bear attacks and natural disasters, though it is not a substitute for official evacuation orders. Jacacon plans to begin taking orders for the Kumacon in December, with installations expected to be completed by spring.
