Fairfax supervisors back DCA flight-path changes to ease noise over neighborhoods | FFXnow
This news article reports that Fairfax County supervisors have endorsed flight-path changes proposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to reduce noise over neighborhoods south of Reagan National Airport. The supervisors' support follows recommendations from the Reagan National Community Noise Working Group, which suggested adjustments to flight paths to lessen the impact on residential areas, parks, and schools. The proposed changes aim to shift 43% of westbound departures closer to the Potomac River and primary arrival routes to less densely populated areas, potentially reducing noise events by 30-90 per month. While the noise level reductions may be modest, the changes are expected to improve the quality of life for residents in affected areas.
It seems like we make changes every few years to airplane and helicopter rules, then somehow end up worse a few years after that. DCA is wildly busy, great for convenience, but absolutely wild considering population density around here.
