February 3, 1987, 39 years ago today: With the “Cray 2,” the University of Stuttgart owned what was then the world's most powerful supercomputer. It cost 48 million German marks. At its maximum configuration, it had a performance of 1.951 GFLOPS. Among other things, the computer was used to simulate the collision of two galaxies, which took 75 hours of computing time.

An Apple Watch (5th generation from 2019) has the same computing power as the supercomputer from back then.
