Microsoft has circumvented a ban on large data centers in the Netherlands by splitting its application into three separate buildings, each under 10 hectares and consuming less than 70MW, allowing it to build three data centers in Amsterdam. Despite the total consumption being 78MW, the province of North Holland does not consider it a hyperscaler. The Amsterdam city council views the move as a good balance, although there is criticism due to the strain on the national power grid and concerns about the dominance of foreign companies in the data center market.

Traffic accidents fall for third consecutive year; Rotterdam and Amsterdam lead

The number of traffic accidents in the Netherlands has declined for the third consecutive year in 2025, with approximately 75,800 accidents recorded, a decrease of about 600 from 2024. Rotterdam and Amsterdam reported the highest numbers of accidents, while Almere saw the largest decrease.
