2,900 cops led by DIG & curbs for people’s assembly: Rajkot civic body plans mega demolition drive along Aji river bank from Monday

The Rajkot Municipal Corporation plans to carry out a mega demolition drive from Monday to remove illegal encroachments along the Aji river bank, aiming to clear over 1,489 illegal structures. The drive involves stringent security measures, including the deployment of nearly 3,000 police personnel, a no drone fly zone, and restrictions on public gatherings. The city administration aims to build an Aji Riverfront similar to the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad and has already allotted alternate housing to over 800 families. The demolition drive is expected to go ahead as planned despite a legal challenge in the Gujarat High Court.
