Helen Chiang reportedly leaves Microsoft months after becoming Xbox’s first COO

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced that Helen Chiang was leaving Microsoft on Oct. 23, according to The Verge’s account of an internal Xbox memo. Chiang had become Xbox’s first chief operating officer in July, only a few months earlier.

Chiang previously headed Minecraft and had spent 21 years at Microsoft, The Verge reports. When she took the new COO job, Sharma described it as having “end-to-end P&L responsibility across content, hardware, platform, and services,” according to the outlet. Chiang reported directly to Sharma.

For now, other Xbox leaders are splitting Chiang’s immediate responsibilities, . Sharma said, “We’ll share more on COO leadership as plans are finalized.” The Verge said the reason for Chiang’s departure was unclear.
