Hytale’s Chapter 1 update is scheduled for October 12, giving the early-access RPG sandbox its first handcrafted dungeon and first proper boss fight. The update centers on goblins, but its more important shift is structural: Hytale is beginning to layer authored encounters and progression onto its procedural world.
The dungeon ends with the Gobliterator, which Rock Paper Shotgun describes as a heavily armored, multi-phase boss with wide flame attacks. Hytale founder Simon Collins-Laflamme has attached a $15,000 challenge to the fight, offering the money to the first streamer who defeats it solo in Hardcore mode without armor.
Hytale’s developer preview explains that the fight runs on an Encounter Manager that coordinates phases, enemy waves and changes to the arena. Encounters are built as content rather than hard-coded engine behavior, which means the studio and modders can reuse the same system for later fights.
That distinction matters for a game that has spent much of early access rebuilding its foundations. The dungeon is not just a one-off combat space. It is also an initial test of the tools Hytale wants to use for more directed RPG content.
Goblins reshape the wider adventure
Outside the dungeon, Chapter 1 expands the goblin faction with hostile elites and friendly characters. Its Goblin Breach world event opens a temporary portal into an unstable fragment of Orbis. Each visit regenerates the space, while a growing Void presence eventually ejects players. The announced activities include tracking predators, surviving assassins, opening chests that trigger enemy waves and solving puzzles that block areas from simple excavation.
Players can also take goblin technology for themselves. The preview lists rocket boots, a mechanical hookshot, a glider, a mining drill and a spyglass among the planned gadgets. Chapter 1 is also meant to introduce the first version of Hytale’s rune-based ability system, although the studio described that design as intentionally limited at launch and expected it to evolve.
The July preview warned that almost everything shown was still in progress and could change before release. The October 12 date is firmer than the rough two-to-three-month window Hytale gave at the time, but the scope remains part of an unfinished early-access game rather than a final-form expansion.
