Fable became playable for attendees at Xbox FanFest London on September 26, giving the public another chance to try Playground Games’ combat-focused demo ahead of the role-playing game’s 2027 release.
Xbox-focused account Klobrille reported that the event build was running on Xbox at 60 frames per second in Performance Mode. The post does not identify the console model, say how long each session lasted or establish whether the build was identical to the one shown at gamescom. A separate firsthand account from one attendee says the London demo was playable through a boss fight and identifies that boss as the Lantern Keeper.
Strength, Skill and Will in one control scheme
Xbox’s full hands-on with the earlier combat demo explains what players can do inside the haunted-mine quest called “Mud and Death.” The reboot adapts Fable’s familiar Strength, Skill and Will categories into melee weapons, ranged attacks and magic that can be used together without stopping to work through a separate loadout bar.
The demonstrated melee loadout centers on a two-handed Bower Hammer with charged swings, dodges, parries and finishers. Ranged choices include a Deepwood Bow and a faster Repeater Crossbow, while the spell set ranges from direct attacks such as Fireball and Lightning to Lift, Rush, Push and Befowl. Those options can be combined to interrupt groups, expose weak points and reposition around enemies rather than forcing one fixed combat style.
The mine also shows how enemy types complicate that mix. Armored Hollow Folk can shut down ranged attacks against protected body parts, Wraiths can inhabit and create more Hollow Folk, and the flying Lantern Keeper pressures players with a large health pool, projectiles and the ability to summon Wraiths. That encounter matches the boss named by the London attendee, but the available sources do not prove every part of the two event builds was unchanged.
What the 60 FPS claim establishes
The London frame-rate detail comes from Klobrille’s event post rather than a dedicated Xbox announcement or a published performance test. Separately, Playground Games associate game director Craig Littler confirmed during a gamescom Q&A that the final Xbox Series X version will offer a 60fps Performance Mode, according to TechRadar. That supports the mode’s existence, but it still does not identify the hardware used at FanFest London.
Fable is developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. The official product page lists a February 23, 2027 release for Xbox Series X|S and Windows, with day-one Game Pass availability.
