Xbox's September 2026 console update began rolling out September 22 with four maintenance fixes and no major new interface feature. GameRant reports that the release applies to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One and carries OS version 10.0.26100.9438.
The changelog fixes a problem that prevented players from remapping the Share button in the Xbox Accessories app. It also addresses errors triggered by certain search terms and a crash that could occur when opening Manage queue in My games & apps. The fourth item is a broader set of stability and performance fixes that Microsoft does not detail further.
That makes the public update a smaller maintenance release than the more visible console changes currently circulating through the Xbox Insider program. Those experiments are a separate track, not features included in the September 22 patch.
Insider tests cover customization, search and streaming
In a September 9 Xbox Wire announcement, Microsoft outlined several features available for Insider testing. Players can choose among startup animations from different Xbox eras, feature up to five badges on their profile card and hide individual badges from public view.
The test also adds local search for games and achievements inside My games & apps, official club achievement lists and profile achievement history. Xbox Series X|S users in the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead rings can preview Remote Play at up to 1440p with higher video bitrates on supported devices and connections.
Other experiments let downloads continue in the background during cloud streaming when network conditions allow and introduce Voice Clarity for party chat and many games. Microsoft also says it is testing behind-the-scenes party reliability and security changes.
GameRant separately cites reporting that some Insiders are seeing more information on game tiles, including achievement and friend-related indicators. Xbox had not formally announced that experiment when the report was published, and it was not available to every Insider. Any broader release remains unconfirmed.
The September maintenance patch therefore reaches players on both current Xbox consoles and Xbox One, while the more conspicuous changes remain limited tests. Microsoft's release notes do not provide a schedule for moving those experiments into the public build.
