Hamster will release Arcade Archives 2 Xevious 3D/G on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2. Video Games Chronicle reports that the 1996 Namco shoot 'em up will cost $16.99 / 1,800 yen and that this is the first home release of its arcade original.
That distinction matters because Xevious 3D/G did reach PlayStation in 1997, but that port was not the arcade version now being reissued. The title was the eighth entry in Namco's scrolling-shooter series and the first to trade the franchise's sprite-based look for polygonal graphics. Players fly the Solvalou spacecraft against the invading Xevious force, a simple premise that arrived as Namco was moving its arcade games onto 3D-capable hardware.
A System 11 game joins the collection
VGC says the arcade game ran on Namco's System 11 board, whose similarities to the original PlayStation hardware helped make the 1997 port possible. Hamster had previously concentrated its polygonal Namco Arcade Archives releases on System 22 and Super System 22 games, then brought the original Tekken to Arcade Archives 2 in June. Xevious 3D/G is another System 11 release in that shift.
The platform split is part of the release's practical consequence. Hamster usually ships current titles under both Arcade Archives and Arcade Archives 2, but VGC says Xevious 3D/G is one of the exceptions: it is an Arcade Archives 2-only title. That puts it on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2, not the original Switch or PlayStation 4.
Arcade Archives 2 also carries features the older label does not. VGC says every Arcade Archives game includes Original, High Score and Caravan modes; its newer line adds Time Attack Mode and variable-refresh-rate support intended to more closely reproduce the arcade experience. Those are collection-level features, not newly invented Xevious 3D/G content, but they explain why this particular arcade version is arriving under the newer banner.
