TLDR

Nikita Buyanov, Tarkov game director, tweeted the player split one month into the Kord Breach season: 35 percent in seasonal PvP, 15 percent in regular PvP, and 50 percent in PvE. He wrote that all player types matter and stated the team is preparing a large PvE update. Separate posts from streamers noted early season excitement followed by balance complaints and discussed how the PvE option has retained some players who avoid PvP.

@nikgeneburn1 month into #kordbreach! Current players distribution: 35% - Season PVP 15% - PVP 50% - PVE How is your progress?
@RealTigzFirst 2–3 weeks of the season were AMAZING, but... Since then, so many things have crept through, and the lack of fine-tuning seems like it’s pushed people away and even created many balancing problems. I do think that the PvP within itself is so poor that players would rather fight AI on PvE than have to deal with players on PvP who don’t move or interact with the gameplay. So many years of punishing mechanics have led to a meta that is so defined that it ruins the enjoyment for many unless you adapt to it, and in my opinion, I think this is where EFT becomes a drain on people’s enjoyment. After playing many hours of Icebreaker, it’s made me realise more and more that a PvE experience against difficult AI is way more fun than dying to players who don’t move and camp. Now, yes, I understand I have contributed to that as a means of content, and in some ways, been hypocritical, but from my perspective there is only so much annoyance you can take in a game like EFT before you learn to adapt or move on. I think this is a big problem for a lot of players. They simply don’t want to deal with it when they can just PvE with their friends. I personally don’t think PvE was a perfect addition, but as time has gone by, I kind of understand the reasoning now. All of the things that make EFT frustrating lead players into ways of winning easier because the game is promoting that type of gameplay because of things like mechanics, features, bugs, desync, etc. I was really hoping BSG would put a big emphasis on perks and pushing players to improve at the game, but I think it’s set in stone unless BSG is willing to compromise and lay off on some restrictions. At EFT’s core, I believe the game is a true PvP game, but so many years have gone by since that game captivated myself and many others. The quality of fights within raids has been reduced to using the cheesiest methods of winning, and I think that one of the main problems with people not wanting to play PvP is that it’s just not appealing when most raids become predictable within how players play a raid: Get a good key, camp that area, wait for players, kill them and profit. 2019–2020 EFT was the best PvP experience of any game I’ve ever played. Full raids, dead players everywhere, and an urgency to be present for a fight so you could potentially get tons of player gear. Lucrative maps such as Shoreline, Reserve, etc. The game was overflowing with stimulation and interaction. I think EFT is 10x better now than it’s ever been, but it comes at a cost to the PvP experience. We just don’t have an enjoyable endgame with player interaction anymore. I could be completely wrong, but from my perspective, if nothing starts to change, I could honestly see EFT becoming a way more popular game designed around PvE, which is sad to me, but the signs are there. 50% of players partaking in PvE over seasons while the main focus of the game is PvP is crazy, It just goes to show how much the audience has changed and also how much people are willing to put up with until they make the switch. I always use old Lvndmark videos as an example of what we lost. Those types of raids are what kept people entertained, both from a viewer perspective and by playing themselves. There is so much valuable feedback in those old videos that BSG could use to revitalise the PvP interactions, but I feel like they probably don’t care. Big long yap, I know, but I thought I’d share some thoughts. Overall, EFT is one of the best games of all time, but I do think there are some major concerns for the future of the game, that being said I am looking forward to future content and seasons but changes are needed I think even down to a balance point of view.
@TSM_BreakMad to think HALF the players that play Tarkov play in PvE. This is a problem with all FPS games in 2026. You have a small core community that are insane at the game & dominate the casual players so bad they want to just play against AI. Also cheaters, no matter the numbers have massive consequence in a looter shooter too. Fair fucks to PvE'ers, I can see why.
@VeryBadSCAVRWhy PVE Existence Helped The Game # Usually PVE haters have logic of 'PVP timmies went to PVE so raids are dead, hence game dead' to certain small portion, they are right. We got that out of the way, let's talk about it. "Why PVE didn't kill the game, instead it revived it." 1. PVE players now are not only ones from PVP, but also people who are coming for first time, who came back after tarkov fatigue, or who were on fence. -> so even tho PVE is removed, people won't go PVP, people will simply drop the game. 2. PVE is also good entry game mode which would even increase PVP players eventually. We had lot of PVE players try PVP Season recently. 3. PVE players paid additional money to play PVE in base. -> these were used to develop the game content more, such as season & new maps. -> nikita even approves that PVE interest was unexpected. 0. PVE is the only way after game is finished or abandoned fully, with modding being added (officially confirmed for modding) + p.s. I still think PVE should be free for Standard PVP edition purchasers or sold as standalone copy of PVE I know some people will say 'make your own game and give for free', but im talking about after buying PVP, or Purchase PVE standalone, not totally free game.
