Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has pointed to a 2027 launch for Grand Theft Auto VI's multiplayer component, offering the clearest public indication yet that Rockstar may separate online play from the game's November release. The important caveat is that Rockstar itself has not announced a multiplayer mode or release window.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Clancy said Twitch had spent substantial time talking with Rockstar about its plans and how the studio could work with creators. He predicted a large audience increase around GTA 6, followed by a bigger one next year “when they launch multiplayer,” according to PC Gamer's account of the interview.
That wording makes the comment more substantial than a guess from outside the companies, but it still leaves room for ambiguity. Clancy was discussing Twitch's expected audience and publisher strategy rather than making a Rockstar product announcement. It is unclear whether he was relaying a firm launch plan or describing Twitch's current expectation based on its conversations with the studio.
Rockstar has not filled in the gaps
Rockstar has not explained whether GTA 6 will receive a new version of GTA Online, how it would relate to the existing service or whether multiplayer would be included with the base game. VGC's report likewise attributes the 2027 timing to Clancy rather than Rockstar.
The idea of a staggered release would have precedent: Grand Theft Auto V launched before its online component in 2013. That history does not confirm the same plan for GTA 6, especially when Rockstar has yet to describe its multiplayer strategy.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, according to Rockstar's current support documentation. Until the studio confirms more, 2027 is a well-connected executive's expectation, not a locked release date.
