Bungie is planning a three-stage overhaul of Marathon that begins with an October refresh, adds permanent PvE in December and connects those pieces through a larger update in March. The studio's complete Future of Marathon announcement frames the roadmap as an expansion beyond extraction rather than an abandonment of the high-stakes PvEvP game that launched in March.
The direction is to make extraction one point in a broader set of survival experiences. Bungie says it is building connected PvE, PvP and PvEvP activities with options for solo players and crews, different levels of intensity and easier entry points for people still learning the game's systems. More experienced players are supposed to retain the ability to pursue higher-risk challenges.
Symbiosis adds permanent PvE and a rebuilt Perimeter
The first step is the Nightfall Refresh in October, a focused update intended to improve progression, rewards and the live game while larger additions are developed. Bungie's earlier development update dates that reset for October 6 and says the studio is moving away from rigid seasonal deadlines.
