Fallout 76’s Raven Rock expansion will tell a prequel story to Fallout 3

That background establishes room for an earlier story, not its plot. Bethesda has not confirmed which characters, factions or locations will appear, and speculation about the expansion's destination or central conflict goes beyond the announcement.

Raven Rock was one item in a much broader Bethesda update. The studio said Fallout 76 remains home to millions of players and has received nearly 70 free updates. It also confirmed that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development, though neither has a release date.

The same roadmap says Bethesda will skip a traditional Fallout Day broadcast in 2026. Instead, it plans to celebrate Fallout's 30th anniversary with a live Fallout Day event in Washington, D.C., in 2027. The announcement does not tie Raven Rock to that event or promise that more expansion details will be revealed there.

For now, the confirmed package is deliberately small: Raven Rock is planned as a major Fallout 76 expansion in 2027, and its story will precede Fallout 3. Everything from its exact launch date to what players will do remains undisclosed.
