Take-Two Interactive briefly lost active status on one Grand Theft Auto VI trademark application this spring, then restored it eight days later. The USPTO prosecution history marks serial 98298472 abandoned on April 6, 2026 because no Statement of Use had been filed. A petition to revive arrived and was granted on April 14.
The application is live again. As of September 27, the USPTO lists it as “LIVE/APPLICATION/Under Examination” and says a third extension of time to file a Statement of Use was granted on August 20.
What this application covers
Take-Two filed the application on December 4, 2023. It covers the Grand Theft Auto VI design that places the series' wording over a Roman numeral VI filled with palm trees. The filing is in International Class 041 for entertainment services including online games, gaming websites, audiovisual content and games-related information.
The application used an intent-to-use basis. After the USPTO issued a Notice of Allowance on March 4, 2025, Take-Two needed either to show qualifying use of the mark for those services or keep requesting extensions. The docket shows a first extension granted in August 2025, followed by the April abandonment and revival, a second extension in July 2026 and the third extension in August.
One filing, not the whole trademark
The word “abandoned” can sound broader than the record supports. It applied to this specific application during an eight-day procedural lapse; it did not erase every GTA VI trademark filing or indicate that Take-Two had abandoned the game.
GTAVice's review of the portfolio counted 16 active U.S. GTA VI applications spanning multiple logo versions and categories such as games, printed materials, clothing and entertainment services. The outlet also identified a different printed-material application that was abandoned in 2024 and never revived, apparently because another live filing covered the same general category.
Neither the USPTO record nor the reporting connects the April lapse to GTA VI's development schedule or release plans. The documented event is narrower: one application missed a use-related deadline, Take-Two filed the available revival paperwork, and the application returned to live status.
