Beyond Good & Evil 2 has added experienced narrative support while its unusually long development continues. Rik Godwin confirmed that he has spent the past few months working on Ubisoft's sequel in a support and consulting role.
Godwin is the lead writer and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux. IGN reports that the Bordeaux studio is assisting the Ubisoft Montpellier-led project, though neither Godwin nor Ubisoft has described his specific assignment.
Support from another Ubisoft studio
Ubisoft Bordeaux has frequently contributed to projects led elsewhere in the company. The studio also led development of Assassin's Creed Mirage and released Claws of Awaji, the expansion for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Its involvement gives the Beyond Good & Evil 2 team another experienced narrative lead without establishing that Godwin has transferred to the project permanently.
The personnel update is modest, but it offers a current sign of work on a game with a famously long timeline. IGN dates the original announcement to 18 years ago and Ubisoft's reintroduction of the project to E3 2016. There is still no announced release date.
A project that survived Ubisoft's reset
Fawzi Mesmar now serves as creative director on the sequel. More recent signs of continuity include narrative connections to the project that appeared in Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition. IGN also reported earlier in 2026 that the sequel survived Ubisoft's wider restructuring and project cancellations.
After those cancellations, Mesmar said the team remained committed to delivering the game while acknowledging the effect on colleagues elsewhere in Ubisoft. Godwin's post adds evidence that development is continuing, but it does not resolve the larger questions around launch timing, current platforms or how closely the finished game will resemble earlier presentations.
Godwin characterized his disclosure as an unusual “non-announcement” and added that he had checked he was allowed to share it. That wording matters: the post confirms his involvement, but it is not a broader Ubisoft production update and does not promise a new reveal.
