Garry’s Mod spiritual successor S&box plans to go free-to-play toward the end of 2026

Rock Paper Shotgun reports that Facepunch founder Garry Newman plans to make S&box free-to-play toward the end of 2026. Newman said his “Netflix for games” idea hasn’t worked, citing poor retention and reviews. The overhaul will put more focus on the Sandbox Game and players’ experience. People who paid for S&box are set to receive exclusive Steam inventory items.
